Having now won a huge domination victory on my second attempt I like them a bit more but am still not convinced. They were the last clan I won a victory with, and I'd won multiple times with a few clans.
These guys seem to get a lot of love, but I don't really get it. Great all rounders that'll get you trying different strategies. The other perks and wisdom they can pick up are also nicely balanced. If you can collect a few sheep into folds early on you'll get yourself a nice steady food supply to help pursue whatever victory you want.
The early bonuses and the extra bonuses from upgraded buildings make them a good clan to learn the game with, but for me that's made them a bit boring.Īnother good one for new players, and these guys can be a lot of fun - but then I would say that about a clan that can build sheepfolds.
The Hall of Skalds producing fame makes it a big step up from the brewery - if you can build, staff and upgrade at least 3-4 of them early on and otherwise keep your settlers alive and your settlement growing you can laugh your way to a fame victory. Keep an eye on all your resources though, especially if you're going for non-conquest victories, and if you do expand quickly don't forget to back fill with all the essential buildings. The beserker colonisation skill is also insanely useful in the late game if you need to reclaim areas quickly or the food requirement has got enormous. Getting meat from wolves means you can farm local dens and use that meat to grow your settlement and claim more useful areas. Despite being styled as a really attack-focused clan they're actually very flexible. If you trade for long enough one of them will join you, and these guys are just as tanky as they look. Wisdom can be fun though as it takes much longer to accrue and encourages exploration.Īlso, to guarantee a good chance of not getting left behind in the early game your ideal starting location is one with an undefended forest next to it - claim it and build your first woodsman's hut there to save a slot in your first area.Īnd one more tip for new players - seek out and trade with the Jotunn. Fame and trade are too fast for me, and if you're up against the Stags or Ravens (respectively) you'll probably find your game skewed towards taking them out first at the expense of an ideal strategy. I've just won single player skirmishes with all the clans except for the new Snake so thought I'd post my thoughts on the clans - check my hours, I've played a lot because Northgard is now my favourite game of its type since The Settlersįor context, I tend to play on huge maps with four clans and the fame, trade and wisdom victories switched off.
